original music

"Young Birds" was inspired by the sound of nature, in this case by the sound of birds while I was waiting of a train to arrive in the middle of nowhere. When I got home I tried to recreate the first half of the tune that I came up with. Carl Verheyen plays this solo at the end of the song.

"Piano Solo" by Jim Cox on Young Birds over a great groove by Dave Moratta on bass.

"Set Me Free" is about a person you are close to which is about to leave this world physically. This song came into being after I played a variation of the main melody.

"The Outro" of Set Me Free featuring Walfredo Reyes Jr. on drums.

"Swamp Dance" a one-chord blues is pretty much based on improvising around a nice little melody. Guitar, harp, washboard and a bass drum have been used on this track.

"Dynamite" is kind of a Jazz/Rock tune inspired by various artists of the fusion era. There is a keyboard part too, but it works as well in a trio format.

Dynamite - play | stop

"Puppeteer Show" is a bit different to the other tunes before. A moderate Rock song which emphasis the lyrics, a story of a young musician trying to bring his music under people.

"At the crossroads" is a moody piece of music. Everything you hear was done with a guitar and an effects processor. The lower notes and playing slide while hitting harmonics was pretty much the idea and challenge besides getting the mood right.

jam

Carl verheyen and WBP got together at a hotel room he was staying at during his visit in europe.

"Blues - Jam" It felt naturally to join forces via the blues, of which we both are very fond of. Enjoy and stay tuned for more stuff.

about white buffalo packer

White Buffalo Packer stands for music and believing in the power of music. The name is derived from the myths and legends of the native americans in which the White Buffalo represents justice, hope and support for those who are in great need.

Music is an universal language without boundaries, communication difficulties or political barriers. Understandable by anyone, with or without musical background. It is a language that uses emotions, feelings which often times won't need explanation or description by words and is therefore ideally suited to deliver a message free of ideologies and giving music a deeper meaning. White Buffalo Packer stands for this beliefs.

about the white buffalo

The White Buffalo has its origin in the legends of the native americans. There are many myths and legends which differ from tribe to region but in general the White Buffalo represents justice, courage and hope. He appears in great need and despair, often in critical situations.

As in one particular tale a young man went hunting. He has been on the hunt before and he was aware of the fact that it could take some time, sometimes even more than one would expect, but this time it was different. He was on the hunt too long already and it didn't seem as if he could hunt down what he was seeking for.

He knew he couldn't return without prey. His tribe was not only depanding on him, but they even more needed the food. Nevertheless he stayed determined and convinced to succeed, because he also knew patience is the key.

Out of nowhere he heard a noise. A noise only animals could make. In the distance but slighlty coming torwards him. In anticipation of facing the animals he lies in wait for the prey as he was attacked by a rivaling tribe. He was outnumbered and tired from hunting, there was no chance he could fight the warriors and stay alive to provide food for his tribe, as suddenly, not far away, the White Buffalo appeared. It seems as if time stood still as the White Buffalo looked at the young man and the young man gazed into the eyes of the White Buffalo which flashed red once as he turned away and dissapeared again. The young man gained strenght and courage.

He knew that something special happened and there was no need to give up. Believing in his faith is what he felt the path he has to follow. Filled with hope of the appereance of the White Buffalo he could widthstand the attack of the warriors from the other tribe and return home savely.
